45-70 barrel length

In a Marlin you can go with the 18.5" Guide gun... I have .45/70's, .45/90's and .45/120's in 18", 20", 24", 26" and 32"... I personally favor the shorter lengths. The .45/70 does well in short barrels as do most straight wall cartridges... They give up less velocity per inch than do bottleneck cartridges IME.

I was thinking about a1895 cowboy if I can find one. I might end up with the 1895 G. Now to start saving up for one. Thanks for the replies. That's good to know the barrel length is not an issue.

Long barrels always swing better for me, I guess that's why I prefer a 26" Sav.
I'd have a 1895 Cowbody in a heatbeat, love that long rapid taper hex barrel!
Except I already have a 45-70 with a 25", 1" dia Hex barrel.
