45-70 bolt gun

My smith was Jason Spencer at Gunco and the total cost was about 900$. A little steep but he did good work.

Now I'm puzzled as to why the mods deleted those posts. This forum can be so weird sometimes.

what posts where deleted ?

Ive got mine in for some work right now. New recoil pad on the sporter type buttstock I bought this winter/spring, I wasnt' so keen on the Military one I had picture above. Also dropping the front ladder sight that was included on barrel .

Ive got some loads made and Im anxious to try them - 500gr. WFN cast bullets in Starline brass. Moderate charge of 3031 to start.

I wanted something impractical like that and ended up with this beater. It was a 458X2 Canadian (;)), and I reamed it to 458 Win Mag, and ended up with a small shoulderr and about 3 grs more capacity, ergo 458 Win Mag Improved. 350gr Hornadys at 2550 fps get your attention.

Do it!

That's a great lookin' rifle! My next project along these lines is to get a Winchester Model 70 in .300 Winchester Short Mag. I'd get a new barrel in .458 and have the chamber reamed with a 300 WSM chamber necked up to .458.

It takes like three or four neck sizings and a fire forming, but it gives you a bit more than a .458 Win Mag from a short action. John Noveske did one like this with a browning IIRC and with a 16" barrel (SIXTEEN INCH) he got a 400gr slug moving at 2200ft/s.

45-70 however is common brass, common factory ammo and plenty of hot-load potential. It's just a bummer that it's rimmed and therefore needs an action like a P14.
