45-70 elk/moose gun

I've never heard of anyone building a 458WM on a long action BLR , but more than a few BAR's have been converted . I shot one that an old friend , now long gone , had built in the early 1980's . To be honest , it wasn't to bad to shoot . Being gas operated help spread the recoil forces out over a longer time period , but it still had some serious recoil . The BLR and the BAR have very similar bolt designs so it is possible , but like you said , it would be a bit of a beast .

.300 WM BLR weighs 7.75 lbs and fitted with a .458 barrel it would weigh a bit more than that. Recoil should be no problem.

Lots of people complain about the brutalization their hand takes in a mild 45-70 loaded lever gun, I cant feature that being "fun" firing a 7.75 lb. gun with your hand in that cage with somewhere close to 80 ft lbs of stock recoil.

To fire these big boomers Wheaties for breakfast is the order of the day. Take it from Bruce/Caityln Jenner.

About the same ME as the factory hornady 350 gr fp ammo but a heavier bullet.
The trouble with the 450 marlin is big bullets take up so much of that small case.
It shouldn’t be difficult to convert a BLR in 450 marlin to a 458 win mag.
The action is certainly strong enough to handle it.

I take the spacer out of the mag box and i can then seat 500 gr Horndays out to a overall lenght of 2.875 . RJ
