45-70 FTX with 3031 or 4895 with Marlin 1895G

Go look at imr's new load data (site changed today) then look at say a hornady 7th edition... I ran into this today cooking up loads for my 1895 Marlin 45-70 gbl. My hornady book says max load for 350 grain with imr 4198 are 45.3 and 1900 fps. Now go and check imr data and there starting load is 47 grains at 2032fps and max of 50 grains for 2131. I'd say the book out of date or too lawyer'd up.

The Hornady FTX bullets require a shorter trim length and their own data. That's why his data is out of date. I'd strongly suggest 3031 over 4895. 4895 is slower and generates some stiff recoil for the low velocity in .45-70. Faster powders are your friend.

How does loading information get out of date?

They make new bullets.

This changes the overall length and possibly the case capacity which would, in turn, change the pressure (could be dangerous). In this case, with the FTX bullets, the case length is also different.
