45-70 gov't ammo

I use the Hornady brass without any problems. I don’t crimp and bullets are seated out to normal length. Lee sells dies that are made to crimp the shorter Hornady brass. I find their brass lasts just as long as other brass. Most of my loads are black powder so lower pressure.

Can one get a similar projectile to the ftx?
You can 100% buy the Hornady 325gr FTX projectiles, also Nosler has 300gr ballistic tip ones. The load data out there will be for full length 45-70 brass.

You can also buy FL Hornady brass brand new too, if you could find it.

Out of curiosity how much shorter in length is the hornady brass compared to standard sami spec length cases?

Where have you found to have reasonable prices for ammo?

Whats your average price per round purchasing?

Do most of you folks reload your gov't ammo?

Hand load. Most factory 45-70 ammo is loaded way too light. And if you buy factory, but plan to hand load in the future, don't buy that Hornady stuff. It's okay, but the brass is cut short and will limit your options down the road.
