So here's my dilemma, I already have a Marlin 1895GBL JM stamped and love that gun, smooth action and excellent fit to finish, as any marlin made before Remington took over. However I'm a big fan of henry, already have a couple of them and really tinkering with the idea of selling my 1895 for a henry 45-70 steel or all weather if I can fin one.
Would appreciate any input you guys have about any of these 2 guns and sorry if there's already a thread about this.

I prefer the Henry, in a 45/70 I have had Marlin, Rossi and Henry. I still have the Henry, many do not like the tube loading, I don't like it in a 22 but I prefer it over a loading gate in a Centre fire cartridge.

I'm looking for my next rifle to be a lever. I'll be probably be looking at the 336. Comparing in stores, you pay more for the Henry but I do think the fit and finish on them is better. Call this trivial, but I can't get over the loading on a Henry. I'm sorry, but a centerfire lever action in my head needs to have a loading gate. It's just not the same without it.

QC, fit n finish is much better on henry .. walnut can be outstanding on the henry ! crap on marlin
i grew up with tube fed 22's .. so the tube on the henry doesn't bother me in the slightest

this reminds me of the debate between CZ 22's vs savage ... CZ every time ! no contest

Easier to to up while on the move.
Absolutely and this was a big factor in my not purchasing a Henry a while ago, but only because 99% of the rounds my rifle shoots aren't out hunting. There is no need to top up a 5 shot 45-70 on the fly if your hunting, ad even if you do it takes all of 10 seconds to do it. If you just cranked off a few 45-70 rounds not much is going to be standing around anyway you have time. If you can't get it done with that you have no business pointing that rifle at a living animal.

In what situation would this matter.
You are carrying 5 rounds - 4 in the mag, one in the chamber. In order to need to reload quickly, it's either the world's slowest bear charge or the dumbest deer mixed with awful aim.
It is quite easy to put one round in the chamber of a Henry.
I still don't see the issue.

I own 7 Henrys and in my opinion you can't go wrong with the Henry and this is why:
If you ever need parts, you phone the company and they send it to you. Try to get parts from Marlin, see what happens. Been there done that.
Henry will be somewhat more expensive but better quality. Try the All-Weather model, you'll never look back. Irunguns may even carry it.
After market parts like bigger lever loop, rails and HiViz sights are easy to get.
HENRY OFFERS A LIFE TIME WARRANTY. MARLIN DOESN'T HAVE THAT.

Another thing to consider is resale of the marlin. These have gone on sale recently for $6-$700. The Remlin argument is loosing ground these days with the improved fit and finish as well. (I have a new production ABL that is finished beautifully)
So with resale not there, you're better off keeping it. Only logical solution is to keep it and buy the Henry you've got your eye on.
