45-70 input,

Like others said, just download from the load data you originally quoted. Boomer's advice of 40 grains of 3031 seems good to me. You may not shoot it very much even at that level, due to recoil.

I reload for two 45-70's for two people, and we shoot 340's and 405's, both cast.

Don't think you need 500's to get major penetration or to kill anything smaller than a large whale. Even with medium-hard 340's, a 45-70 has crazy penetration.
 
My 500gr load is 45 grains of 3031, with an OAL just long enough that it cycles perfectly through a Marlin. It's enough.
 
I don't think you should try to get to 1800 with 500s in a break action. Nor do I think you would have any fun with that load even if you could get there.
 
My Handi rifle loads are a Lyman 405 cast @ 1900 fps and the Hornady FTX 325's at 2300 fps... which are the same loads that I use in my No.1... powder is H4198.
