45-70 Lever Rifle, which one?

Winchester/Miroku 1886 without a doubt...

Nice, well made rifle, but I went for the more comfortable on the shoulder version made by Pedersoli. These compare as good as the Miroku units and have nicer wood. Accurate bugger to boot.

45-70 isn't an overbore cartridge. Im sure performance would suffer with the 12" barrel but i think there is some to spare.

You'd be surprised at how minimal the velocity loss really is = in my 12.5" and 22" barreled T/C Contender carbines using the exact same loads there is only an appr 100'/second loss.

I have a stainless marlin made by Remington and it has been smooth as silk and fires every time I absolutely love it, I have bought, sold and traded a boat load of firearms over the last few years but that one has stayed and I shoot it a lot and its accurate as heck so i see a tonne of people bashing the Remington made marlins but there are a lot of good ones out there and there affordable I think I paid $650ish for mine that's around a Rossi price and i believe its twice the rifle any Rossi is! Its nice and short and fits when you shoulder it and did i mention its fun to shoot and accurate as heck hahaha! Any how you are the one who is gonna have to decide but don't pass up on a rem marlin just cuz of a crappy start they are very much improved

Marlin 1895 g or gs in 45-70 with XS peep sight . jmo RJ

As I posted in the other thread on the Hornady 325gr. FTX, I had an 1895GS that I gave to my young son up in your area. Never did really like the straight stock design:(, especially not with the hotter top end handloads the Marlin is capeable of handling and using the heavier bullets. To take up the slack in that calibre, I replaced it with a Marlin 1895GBL AND,;) as in my other post, a Magnum Research BFR :d.

My vote is for the Marlin 1895 cowboy. Been shooting sub moa using 490gr flat nose piledrivers. Yes it's a bit heavier and 26in octagon barrel is not as handy and 18.5 in tight cover but something about the look and the balance I absolutely love...

The Winchester extralight either original or miroku.

Had one side by side on the gun counter with the marlin 1895, it was an easy choice which one to choose.

I have 2 Guide Guns (B + SS).
The factory Hornady LeveRevolution 325 grain FTX is crazy accurate in both of them.
I also have a Miroku Winchester model 1886 which shoots Buffalo Bore 430 grain hard cast lead ammo very accurately.

I have an 1895, love it. But I have it set up with a VXii and don't hesitate on anything within the 175 yard range. For thick bush and a 60 yard max I would grab a Marlin guide gun. As mentioned, a c clip on the safety solves that problem, and you can still use the half #### set up.

The Pedersoli 86/71 is great if you can find one that doesn't have cycling problems.
Mine had interrupter and carrier problems that 2 gunsmiths couldn't fix and I finally sold it.
Bought a Miroku Winchester extra light which was slick and accurate out of the box.
My 2 Guide Guns will digest just about any ammo and are crazy accurate with the factory FTX 325 grain ammo.
