45-70 Leverevolution, moose at 200 yds ?

Absolutely ,it's been done many times, upgrade to
Hornady Leverevolution ammo and increase that distance even more

If you select the right bullet, know the trajectory of your gun/load combo and can keep every shot you take on the area of a 10" paper plate then it'll work everytime and far beyond 200 yards as well.

I think at that range, the bullet will be traveling too fast to expand and will pencil through and not kill the moose.

Oh Gatehouse, your sarcasm levels are strong in this post... He he he

I wonder if the same could be said about your beloved 375 Ruger? HE HE

Cheers

I had that problem with a black bear and a spear once. Went through the boar and skewered a moose that was standing behind, good thing I had tags for all that carnage. Threw the dang thing way too hard I guess, will know better next time.

That ammo might work depends on how much kevlar the moose are wearing this coming season. 200 yards is pretty far may need a 300wsm for that long range shooting.

Have been used to knock down low orbiting satellites & deflect earth bound meteorites the size of Cadillacs. I'm not lying!...

I'd swap to a 350gr FN and dump the lipstick bullets entirely.PS A lot of bison were tilted with the 45-70 and the like well past 200 yards.Harold

My dad shot a bull moose at 250 yards with his. He managed to hit it in the neck and the bullet stopped in the hide on the opposite side. The bullet looked brand new, 0 expansion. He did however sever the carotid artery. I think it was too far of a shot. Sure people shot bison at long ranges but they probably wounded lots, too. We can't tolerate that by today's standards. Just my opinion.

My opinion is worth exactly what you pay for it. Both second hand info but:
bull elk shot at 120 yds, did not break the shoulder knuckle, bull killed 10 days later w/ infected shoulder, no bs as i was there trying to track it the day it was shot
small island deer was shot, bullet expaned very aggressively, under 100 ys, shooter was disappointed enuff to say he would not use on big animals

basically seems to be a bullet designed for deer sized game, not big suff
