45/70 load data needed(trapdoor)

I have smokeless Trapdoor data in my old Lyman book. 300 grain jacketed and 405 jacketed. 385, 482 and 552 grain cast.
Hodgdon's site has tons of smokeless 300 grain jacketed and 405 grain cast bullet data for a Trapdoor. Far more extensive than my manual, but e-mail me if you want the Lyman data. toheir@hotmail.com

Had a carbine, long ago. Don't load 70 grains of BP with a cast 405 for a carbine. It hurts. Didn't know any better at the time. No internet then and few books.

Case full of drop tubed 2fg black powder, an over powder wad, seat bullet....no air space in cart. pretty simple and if done right, including proper BP lube on bullet, blow tubing between shots....it will be the most accurate load in your gun. Forget the 777 or pyrodex, it's harder to ignite and shows lots of SD, use smokeless if you must in your old Trapdoor but i don't see a case 1/4 full of powder being your ticket to accuracy. Should also mention that your bullet should match bore size and be cast quite soft, pref. 30-1.......It don't get much better!
What's the best lube? Lee Alox looks good.

The Gould Hollow pt. is the best deer bullet of all time.....currently made and sold by M.T. Chambers........Definitely NOT to Lee Alox...it is not meant for Black Powder....It will compound any fouling/accuracy problems....petroleum products or the waxy lube commercial casters use are also terrible with BP. SPG or any of the lubes using Beeswax/Lanolin/Animal fat/Lard, will keep your fouling soft, soft enough that subsequent shots will help clean the bore. Keeping fouling moist and soft is the key and a blowtube will be a big help.
Thank God for soft fouling! It starts the day off right and a blow j... er, tube sure can`t hurt!! The first time I saw a fellow using a tube I had a hard time controlling my laughter, mind you he was not missing the V at 300m either.
