I picked up a marlin lever 45-70 barrel a few months ago, it looks to be in excellent shape.

I already have an enfield converted to 45-70, I'm kinda of thinking of another as I could do another stock for it as the last was kind of fun, I know Brian with accurate action has a bunch of surplus #4 actions in good shape that I think he only wanted $100 a piece for, anyone know if the smaller diameter but almost straight barrel profile of the marlin barrel would an issue to have the a smith join them up?

Also, I've heard of a few folks making 45-70's with mosins, anyone hear more on that? most I hear is that it's blasphemy to modify milsurps, but as i understand the mosins are cheap.

A straight pull swiss would be fun too, but I don't have the heart to butcher one of those.

Mosin 45-70? Sign me up!!!

This is my most fun round at the moment. I was shooting at silverdale yesterday and chunks of mud were flying over the berm at the 50m range.
They are cheap and millions were made so won't be too collectible in my lifetime - but lots of history.

Not sure, gonna be a totally different thread though, it's a large square thread, but the barrel doesn't really have any taper, it's almost like a bull barrel by contour.
