In the past used a red dot for my 45-70, I am curious if a 1-4 1-6 or 1-8 would work well or not.

Size and weight are a concern, looking mid to high end for either, think Aimpoint for RDS and Vortex-Nightforce as a range for price for variable scope.

If weight didn’t matter I’d just go back to a Viper pst 2 1-6 but it’s stupid heavy. Hence looking at the nightforce.

No clue as well on Reticle and what would work best on a 45-70 for drop holdover.... most shooting done inside 100y but would like a 300y option.

Don’t know if any Eotech style optics that the bullet drop ring would work to hold over as well.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion,,, however due to the super low cheek weld of the Marlins I’m looking for a 1x option as it’s my bush gun, only want the magnification if I’m hunting with it, which would only be bear season.

Consider the Leupold VX-R series. Many reticle options through the custom shop and option of add CDS Zero Stop locking turrets calibrated to your load.

I also have a 1.5-4x Leupold on my 45-70 and I love it but I am thinking swapping it over to a scout style scope to match my 32spl since I find that much quicker

Thanks, I really don’t like forward mounted scout scopes, if I was gonna go with that I’d just put a red dot or micro red dot on her.

Still looking for a 1-4x or 1-8x but either they cost a fortune or they weigh a ton... or both lol.
