45-70 Marlin moose load

With the 300gr HP's it prefered IMR 3031 but not so with the 350hr FP's

I always found unburned powder when I used IMR 3031. I settled on Reloder 7 with the Hornady 350gr FP's and 350gr & 405gr hard cast loads. My best accuracy was with teeth loosening max loads. Never felt the need for little 300gr bullets, bigger is better with the .45-70

In my 21" barrelled Mauser I found IMR 3031 & Reloader 7 pretty darn accurate with the same 350 grain Hornady bullet. (1 in 16 twist)
And I found the IMR 4198 had a bit more violent felt recoil with these near top end loads myself.
I only use 4198 for mid-range cast loads now.

I'm using 55gr varget under a hornady 350gr flat nose. Seems as accurate as I can shoot
