I want a 45-70 lever. But, which to buy?

I like the Marlin 1895 GBL, but have heard of several quality issues in the latter years once remington bought them.

I like the Henry, but I'm sure I wil dislike the price. I can't seem to locate one locally (or even not so locally) either.

Opinions?

Thanks!

IMO, get the Henry brass model, tube loading/unloading is easier and faster and does less damage to the bullets than gate loading. The brass/octagon model is a beauty.

I like the stainless all weather Henry, but again, I'm sure I will hate the price. There are several Marlins in the vicinity, I will go take a look for the hell of it. What are some of the things to look for? Improperly indexed barrels and poor fit on the stock? Check for smooth cycling?

New Marlins are fine. As suggested hold it in your hands and check the fit and finish. This JM stuff is over blown bs in 2017. I own an 1895SBL and I wouldn't trade it for anything under $2000

The main thing I noticed with the rem made at first glance was the finish. Not as nice and smooth as the older ones. Also the triggers.. never knew they would sell a rifle with a trigger that flopped around like that. If I went new marlin I would be budgeting in a new trigger or a gunsmith to rework it at least.

I own a marlin 1895 GBL. Accurate for a lever gun, I find. The only issue I have is with feeding. Doesn't cycle as smooth as I'd like it too. But on the flip side, it puts deer down with authority.

The prices are about 150 dollars more for the Henry vs a comparable Marlin depending on retailer.
Henrys are built and priced to compete against Marlin.

If you can get used to the tube feed, I prefer it myself, there is no reason to choose an 1895 over a henry.
Better warranty
Better wood
Better fit and finish

Marlin for me, sorry to the Henry guys but I just can't get on board. I just do not like the looks of them, I'm sure the work great but for me a lever gun has to look like Winchester or a Marlin.

Looks good to me... WAY smoother than Marlin... and more accurate than any of my Marlin's.

I recently purchased a Marlin .............knee...............2007.
She is a thing oh beauty.
I stare att'er and fur lack of luv, can't find anything wrong with'er.

Tube feed center fires?
Gift me a break......................:sok2

The truth is, when you're out hunting, it makes no difference. Makes it easier to unload as well.
