was at the range yesterday I've beeen trying many loads for this fall. As always some good some not. The little gun is light & no recoil pad. Recoil is noticable. I was shooting a RCBS gas checked 405 w/ 50 gr 3031. thought I was getting a thumping with work boots. The first 3 shot group at 100 meters was covered by a looney. Velocity out of the short barrell was 1734. I'm a happy boy. This will be my hunting load. Thanks to you all for giviing me ideas on loads.:D AJ

Swap that Goodyear pad (yes, they actually say Goodyear on the inside) out for a Pachmayr or Limbsaver. That'll take all the whack out of the butt end of the thing. I swapped the pad off my #1H 458 for a Pachmayr and it made a pussycat of it, even with 500gr factory loads (from way back when they had to put French stickers on the packaging to comply with our language laws).

And FYI, those workboots you speak of are lovingly referred to by my wife's people as "Cape Breton Boxing Gloces"!

AJ...You can buy a lace on or slip on recoil pad for your #3 but you probably already know that....I was lucky when I bought mine "used" someone had replaced the steel buttplate with a Pachmayer...looks like hell because the top of the stock at the butt had to be filled in but isn't all that bad to shoot...I also try to keep my loads under 1500 FPS...:)

Worse than being just steel, the butt plate is curved! If you can shoot that well you're a better man than me. I'd be looking for a Limb Saver or a Decelerator. Do you get your fingers wrapped from the lever? I'd change that too!
