45-70 scope

I just purchased a Marlin SBL 45-70 and I will be using it for White Tale Deer hunting at about 100 yards, I would like to put a 3x9x50 Vortex cross fire 2 with V-brite on it. My 3006 has a bushnell 3500 3x9x50 on it and in low light conditions it is amazing. I know the 45-70 is not a long range gun. I am thinking between the bushnell 3500 or the Vortex crossifire 2. Any opinions

If your only going to be shooting out to 100 yards tops do you really need a 3x9 power scope on it? Especially with a 50mm objective?
I put a 1x4 Nikon on my 45-70 and it is IMHO perfect for hunting the bush and the 4x top end still lets you shoot to medium range distances if need be. If you already have a 3x9 scope and need to use it you can certainly get it to work but if your still looking for glass take a look at some of the lower power smaller ones out there and see what you think. I find too large of a scope takes away from the compact handy nature of a lever action.

I have a 1.5-4x Leupold on my father's 45-70 and it is perfect. I do have a fixed power scout scope setup on my Marlin 336 and I really like that as well, which would be great for a 45-70 if you have trouble with recoil since there would be no chance of getting "scoped".

I use a Leupold VX3 in 1.5-5x20 on my 450 Marlin BLR. I agree with others that 3-9 is too much magnification for a 45-70.

I would go with the Bushnell 3500 over the Vortex Crossfire however I agree with everyone else that a 3-9x is going to be too much scope for the application.

Have you thought of a red dot/reflex sight? Personally, I just put Firesights on all my levers. They work great.

Have a leupold scout 1,5-4 on mine. Can shoot both eyes open all time and target acquisition is very fast

Leupold 1-4 or 1.5-5 with HEAVY (thick) reticle. The heavy reticle is much nicer for hunting in thick bush. It seems to just "pop" out more and makes the shot much easier. I think that's why many people like the German 3 (or 4) reticle.

Shooting at 200 yds today and for me 4x is just not enough for 200

Necro, but bang on. Have 2 1-4x20 African german #4, clear, tough as nails, not Leupold......what's not to like.

If anyone sold another on the EE, it would be 3.

Who knows at this point? I would assume it will still be Nikon or a subsidiary of the company....
Nikon is just retreating from the scope business but they are still a major presence in the larger optics/camera business so I would expect that they would want to keep their old scope customers happy so they don't sour on the larger Nikon brand name.
I really like my Nikon scopes and as well have always been happy with Nikon products.
