Hey,

Hope this isn't a repost but it is a unique question.

After watching the future weapons episode with the .50 Beowulf I have decided I would love the same kind of thing it was legal/able to be purchased in Canada but I figure there aren't many options.

I was looking for something in the area of a larger calibre semi-auto around 45-70 but I do think that the round would destroy a semi-sutomatic action but it seems like the technology is up there now so i figured I'd ask around and see what the are the selection of large calibre semi-autos in Canada are if there are any past a 308

Thanks again everyone.

More common in the current NA market .....

Browning (BAR) in .30-06, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag

Benelli R1 in .30-06 Spfld, .300 Win Mag

Remington Mod 750 in .30-06

338 bar has been around for years- that beats the heck out of a 308 plus there's a whole string of remmybased on 06 cases

I've often said that Browning should produce the BAR in .450 Marlin. They already make the BAR with a magnum bolt face and they make the BLR in .450 Marlin. Seems to me that it could be done. I'd buy one too.

why go there at all- the 338 is nothing more than a 458 necked to 34 caliber- different barrel, maybe change the gas port diameter, and there you go- and a 458 win mag is SUPERIOR to a 450 marlin

I recall reading many years ago about a guy in the 'States who converted a BAR to 458 Win Mag. More recently they've also started making conversions for AR-15 to some sort of 45 cal that produces 45/70 ballistics.

I think your talking a about the .450 bushmaster which was inspired by Jeff Cooper.

When I was a teenager, I thought the idea of a M4 carbine in .444 marline was a pretty cool idea.

Probably would work, but the rimmed cartridges would be a problem...

You can do the 450 Marlin or 458 Win Mag in the BAR. I think a 416 Taylor would be cool, then you could pop 300gr pills at 2500fps+ with little recoil.

You could do a 400 or 411 Whelen or Hawk in a Remmy, but I would do the BAR over a Remmy.
