45 70

I use a few different loads but my favorite is 53g of IMR 3031 and a 405g jacketed Remington. I load this load for three others as well and they all like it. Makes for 1850 to 1900 FPS.

100 yards with my 22" Marlin.

One day i would love to try a Ruger #1 in .45-70 with my hotter loads. I am sure that Ruger would feel tame compared to the short barreled Guideguns.
The Ruger #1 in the 'bigger' stuff can boot you pretty good. I had one in .375 H&H and what I used to tame it somewhat was an ugly recoil pad that looked as though it had mated with an accordion.

Very nice.

I have a stockpile of IMR4064 and quite a few 405 grain flat nose non-gas checked cast bullets. The problem is my hornady manual only has loads for hornady jacketed bullets of different weights, not the 405 casts. Anyone loaded for their guide gun with 4064?
