good day...the other day at the range a guy was shooting a sharps 45-70...wow lots of smoke and was out shooting other long guns..just wondering what one would cost or a good price for one...i think i would like to purchase one, looks like fun to shoot

Cheapest 45-70 for me was to buy a H&R Buffalo Classic at around 400$.
Antique Springfields are in the 1000$ range.
Sharps, new are in the 2000$ and up range and there can be a waiting period to have one built.
You will want to reload for any of these.

I've owned quite a few different 45-70's and would not want to be without one. Right now, I have two ..... an original Winchester 1886 made in 1890 and a more recent Browning 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine. The ultimate in 45-70's is a Shiloh Sharps. Check out their website if you want to drool.

Love the 45 70. Handloaded it is an excellent cartridge for everything from mice to mastadons. Check out the Ruger #1. You can load it to very unpleasant levels. With a heavy load, put your false teeth in your pocket. Complete penetration end to end on large whitetail, and elk and moose don't like em either.
