45 70's most versatile hunting powder...

What would be the 45 70's most versatile hunting powder?


I have a marlin guide gun.
Hunting will be for deer and moose.
350 and 405 gr bullets most likely.

RL7 got me the fastest velocity with jacketed bullets.

varget has done very well for me

In my Ruger #3 I get exceptional accuraccy (shot are usually touching @ 100yds if I do my part) and velocity with RL 7 (350 gr @ 2250 fps).

Same here. At the moment, it's my powder of choice with the 'heavier' loads in modern .45-70's. To date, some of my best results have been with IMR 3031 and the Speer 400gr FN. With some of the results 303carbine has obtained using IMR 4198, I've loaded up some Hornady 350gr FP's,Speer 400gr FN's and 405gr Rem's with it to test.
