Depends whether it is a "generic" GI type magazine or the real deal Colt factory magazine or one of the high quality after market maker mags.

I picked up two or three of the blued mags from Dlask at the last local gun show. They've proven to work well in my own gun without any tweaking at all. And at $20 each you can't go wrong.

Colt, blued

If they are "real deal" factory Colt, blued, magazines for a Mk IV Series 80 they should look like this on the base(s):

The top one in the pic is used "very good condition", the bottom three are "like new".

Personally, I'd pay $20-$25 each for them, and feel like I did well. I scored all of the above off the EE at one time or another.

Commercial Colt (pre-1970). Marked "Colt .45 Auto" on the bottom of the floor plate. Beware! Many of the after-market copies carry the same marking. However, the "counter" holes in the side of the magazine body are generally over-sized. The other dead give-away is the typeface ("font") used in the marking. It is not the same style font used by Colt, and the number "45" is usually not preceded by a decimal point.

Eight look like the 1968 one and one has a decimal point before the 45 but the font is the same on all.

The count holes are exactly the same as on the stainless one that came with the pistol (that also has the horse, M, & S).
