Hi All,

I recently purchased a Sig 1911, I am currently looking at getting some cheap reliable ammo.

I have gone through several threads on the forum, and so far I have seen these two being mentioned a lot: BDX and Custom Reloads.

What ammo do you use for 45 acp? Opinions on the above mentioned reloads?

Also as for the break in period for my gun, what is the best ammo to use?

Also, where do you purchase your ammo?

Thanks for any input.

No "break in", just shoot it. I see you are in TO. Wolf remanufactured ammo would be closer to you to cut down on shipping costs. Custom and BDX are top quality ammo. I have no personal experience with Wolf.

Thanks for the info, I just checked out wolf, it seems like they are a little hard to find, the ammosource seems like they are always out of stock, on everything...

if you buy a minimum of 5000 rounds then you can order directly from Wolf. thats what i did for 9mm.

otherwise you will have to keep looking for a retailer for smaller quantity purchases.

Oh, good to know that, i was wondering if they did direct sale. how about the quality of these rounds? have you ever encountered any problems?

ive only gone through 400 rounds in the last week (got the shipment less than two weeks ago) and have not experienced any issues.

Used BDX for 40 cal and 9mm - good stuff. Couldn't find BDX in .45 ACP.

Sellier and Bellot 230gr is a good choice for .45 ACP but it is at about 27.99/box/50rds.

The cheapest .45ACP I've seen was Norinco from ammosupply at $21.99 but shipping costs reduces the savings.

I did some comparison at canadaammo vs ammo supply for .45 ACP (two different brands though).

Canada Ammo
Fiochi .45 ACP 230gr
27.99 x 8
223.92 subtotal
+29.11 tax (13%)
Free shipping for orders > $200
253.03 Total

Ammo supply
Norinco .45 ACP 230gr
21.99 x8
175.92 subtotal
+35 (shipping to ON)
+10.54 tax (5%)
=221.46

I'm tempted to buy several boxes.

I've gone through 500+ rounds of the Wolf in both 230gr FMJ and the 200gr SWC and can attest to the quality. Check out Bulls Eye London. i think they have stock.

If you're planning on shooting a lot of .45, buying ammo will get expensive quickly. Worse if you buy on-line and have to pay shipping. Plus you need to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your pistol shoots best.
Reloading is your friend.

Thanks for all the input, I have contact multiple dealers/wolfbullets directly.

I will definitely also look into reloading!

Customreloadingservice.com is great, but I'm not sure about shipping to T.O. from BC...

Called John, got a quote of $552.35 for 1000 rds 45 acp 230 gr fmj to my door, I thought it was a bit high compared to $350 + shipping/tax for wold ammunition from the ammo source, as I have heard good reviews about them as well.

I have to disagree with the wolf ammo being good. It has been the only ammo that I get squibs with 2/8 rounds consecutive in both my STI Trojan and my Remington R1. I have tried just about every manufacturer of. 45 ACP out there. Custom Reloads is often more pricey than retail price on larger manufactures at retail.
