45 ACP, and magnum primers

I have a ton of pistol magnum (not match) primers and was wondering if anyone has used these in 45 acp rounds?

If so any issues or contraindicated?

They should work just fine,bit of a waste of money though,given the price of match primers, as I think that any theoretical gain in accuracy will be miniscule.All in all,primers play a pretty minor role in the whole accuracy equation.

Ok, lets try this again with MAGUM primers, not match primers!!!

probably no problem whatsoever- the magnum primers are just a little hotter than standard primers, but where they show off is large charges of powder with heavy bullets- the higher end 44 mags, 45 colts, and 454 casulls- where you NEED a hotter flame to make the charge burn properly- the reason i say probably is that i haven't tried it, as these are somewhat more expensive than standard- about 3 bucks /box of 1k- and winchester lists their primer as a standard /magnum- suitable for BOTH applications
your 45 acp is a LOW PRESSURE round- about 19-21 kfps so you can't get into magnum territory anyway, even if you wanted to

I have been using them in .45 as that is all I have. I think accuracy may not be quite as good, but that could be in my head. No excess pressure signs, etc. were noticed.

I have played around with this a lot. I have used large rifle primmers as well. Be careful to work up to your load as the hotter primers can push you into trouble very quickly with some powders. With my chronograph I have had some unequal velocities some times, but if you are careful yes you should be able to use them safely enought.

Likewise.... I have used Large rifle and magnum primers with 230gr. and Titegroup with no problems whatsoever.

My Winchester primer-box says "large pistol primers for standard and magnum loads"....

Have no clue what that's supposed to mean , but they work fine in my antique .45 ACP revolver.

Umm, check the book dimensions of large pistol versus large rifle primers. Methinks, off the top of me 'ead, they might differ. But magmun primers, no problemo.

I use large rifle primers in 45acp in my 45acp Mauser. I load it ~ 50,000 psi, and shoot groups at 100 yards with 230 gr FMJ.

The magnum pistol primer is real good for big cases of slow ball powder like 296.

in a 45ACP, it will work just fine will all powders, with maybe using 0.1 gr less powder to get the same velocity.
