I have been loading 45 acp with once fire brass with out issue, but i purchased some new primed brass and it seems to bulge when seating the bullet and will not chamber.

I loaded 100 once fired brass and every one shot fine through my cz.

I have done the following (using lnl ap with hornady dies)

1. changed flare (both little more and little less)
2. cleaned all the dies again.
3. taken crimp out and even put little more crimp.
4. resized new brass

It have come to the conclusion it must be the brass as the once fired with the same die settings chambers ok, so is there something i need to do to new brass?

What's your new brass length? It seems to me that the brass may be too long?

Just a thought. I'm sure someone else with more knowledge will chime in though.

Hi Jawsman

length is 0.893 for new and 0.892 for once fired, max in book is 0.898

I also tried chamfer but same issue
 
It almost sounds like the brass is to thick for whatever reason. If you resize the new brass will it chamber fine in your gun( before you flare or seat a bullet in it ?

New brass chambers no problem even if i dont resize, but as soon as i seat the bullet you see a bulge,not all the way round through.

The brass is federal.

Well it seems to me then there are only two things it can be. One either the brass is to thick or two the bullets are to big. I can not think of anything else it could be.

Federal usually makes pretty good brass, although it is possible the brass is too thick.

My thought is that the bullet is too large. OP, do you have calipers and can measure the base of the bullet? It might help determine what the problem is.
 
Get yourself a Lee Factory Crimp Die. This is a not uncommon problem and the Lee die will reform the case after you seat the bullet back to factory specs. The die is cheap to buy and is used last, after you seat the bullet. Problem solved.
 
All fixed, thanks for all the help, I put more crimp on and its chambers ok now, I did try a little more crimp at first but decided to try half more turn and although you can see a little bulge it now chambers.

Its more than the crimp on my once fired but i guess i will change it for once fired once i go through all the new brass.

Base of the bullet is 0.451

the buldge not all the way around is seating the bullet a little slanted. if it's federal it is a little thicker, the Lee fcd will solve the prob as mentioned above. you need one anyway for any other buldge/rim probs. i've got fed & any probs disappear after the 1st reload, i got it 1ce fired & it's now on the 9th load. ps you will most likely have a small buldge with any brass/bullet combo as the resize die sizes a little under size
