Okay have read on here lots prefer large over small some go small over large and some load both. For the guys who load both do you change your recipe at all?

Nope. Same recipe here. It’s not exactly a precision cartridge. In my experience, a few tenths here or there didn’t make a difference anyways. Large or small primer doesn’t either for me.
I prefer small either way. I can switch my press over from 9mm and leave the priming system alone.

Im the same but opposite, I prefer large primer as i dont have to screw around too much. The other reason is, if you go both you risk mixing up brass and trying to shove a large primmer into a small pocket.

I bought a couple of thousand small primer cases and gave away all my large primer ones, because I can get lead free primers in small, but not in karge.

I load both and don’t change my recipe. I’ve never tried to shoot both types together or chronyd them so I can’t say for sure there’s no difference. Once sorted all small or all large I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference to the POI using the same recipies.

Are you trying to make a specific power factor, or are you just shooting for the enjoyment?

I have not noticed a difference in feel or accuracy.

The chrono has noticed a difference in velocity, in the range of what 4n2t0 showed in his post. I found the small pistol primers were 10-20 fps slower when the powder charge, OAL, and bullet remained the same. To meet power factor you will probably end up adding 0.1 - 0.2 gr of powder when using small primers. I did not try anything like enlarging flash holes or whatever; I just tested large primers and small primers in the brass that I had on hand.

as most have said i load both and don't change recipes based on the primer but most of my loads are closer to target loads vs hotter loads.

Okay guys. Thanks for the replies. In load development I tried a bunch of different powders and for 230 gr, FMJ the best results were 5.7 gr bullseye, I hadn't reloaded for a while as my stock of bullseye was way way low, found a store, bought a couple lbs and Cabelas has a clearance sale on a 500 count Speer 230 gr TMJ RN bullets as the plastic box was cracked. Was a great deal kinda kicking myself for not buying both boxes
