picked up some used brass at the range, cases marked WIN NT 45 AUTO. specs say to load with large pistol primers only, can they be reloaded with federal small pistol primers?

is lead accurate in a norinco 1911? currently loading with 230gram fmj-rn hornedy but it is expensive any other suggestions

Winchester states the Winclean NT .45acp is non-reloadable, but lots of people do reload them with small pistol primers.

I don't bother keeping these round because I already have a thousand round of .45acp brass for large pistol primers and I don't want to start mix and matching everytime I reload.

My 1911 is not a Norinco, but I get great results with lead 200gr. swc.

Those are winclean rounds. They use non toxic primers and are meant for indoor ranges who want to minimize lead exposure. I've just thrown those away. 45 rounds are a dime a dozen.

My commander likes lead reloads. I primarily use 225 gr lead and have not noticed any drop off in accuracy or excessive fouling.

-i just segregate mine and switch priming tools when i decide to do a bunch of nt- i've also got the standard large pistol 1k, maybe more, but maybe my brass is more precious than yours- i don't like having to find it/ pick it up after i've been shooting automatics, therefore , the large is reserved for revolvers, the small for autos- i also on a fixed income so new brass- even replacement represents a considerable hardness for me

"...any other suggestions..." Work up a load with cast 230 RN's or flat points. Taper crimping only. Bullseye works well for cast bullets out of my Colt. There's no reason why your Norinco won't shoot them as well.

Reloads

The Win NT's can be reloaded but they are a pain, especially if they get mixed in with your regular LP stuff.

My son's Norinco loves 200 gr. lead SWC's with 5.4 grs. of 231. Very accurate. Works well in my STI but with a bit more 231 to make major. Montana Gold bullets (200 gr.) work well also and can be found relatively cheaply.

I agree with Sunray, taper crimp only.

Personally I don't like to use range brass as you have no idea how many times it has been reloaded and there can be issues with brass that has been hot loaded one too many times. Do you check for case length variations with range brass? You should. While looking for my own brass at a recent qualifier ( I mark my .45 cases) we found at least two split cases: one from a .38 super and one from a .40. I don't think you would want to reload from those lots of brass.

My Norc loved the 200 gr hard cast from Wolf Bullets. Decent accuracy as far as I can tell (I hit the target :p ). I've got a box of plated 230's from BDX to try next. Both were cheap.

(E)

I'd love to get them for that price. They're more like a dime apiece around here.

Ive been reloading 45acp Win.NT brass SPrimers ( federal and win.)with no problem at all. powder use- N320, 231, Tg, vith.n320 is a cleaner powder.
