45 ACP with small primer. Any problem?

Never had a problem and actually prefer loading them (my press is usually set up for .223 or 9mm most of the time, so being able to just leave the small primer seater in and just swap out the tool head and shell plate etc... is an added bonus. What can I say? I'm naturally lazy...)
Makes no difference in accuracy either (I use 5.3gr Win231 under 230 gr FMJRN with the small primers)

Whoever came up with the idea of putting a SPP in a 45acp case is an idiot. It's one of those things: a solution looking for a problem.
Mr. Idiot must have convinced somebody at Federal that it might work, or it was a Friday late day idea that COULD NOT BE STOPPED.
Mix these SPP cases in with your regular brass, even by mistake, and watch the primers get crunched.
My advice is to leave all 45acp SPP primers on the ground at the range. Pick them up at your peril. Just imagine ten guys shooting 45acp 1911's on the 7 yard line, with one guy in the middle with the SPP. Picking up this worthless brass will compromise your 45acp system.
Quit buying this crappy fodder and maybe Federal will quit making this junk.

I'm always the guy standing to the right (read wrong) side of that idot.
not to mention that winchester winclean also uses the same small primer- i've been told that the small pistol primer flame is actually hotter and gives a more complete ignition- however, i believe it was for a commonality with the 9mm; it poses no problem however, for the reloader; you simply use the small primer trough and pin or whatever instead of the big one[ anybody that complains about this is EXTREMELY MYOPIC

I recall reading, not sure how valid, but the Win NT primers are lead free, and they made NT brass so they wouldn't have to make large lead free primers just for 45acp.
I have changed to all small primer 45 brass. At least when I'm reloading I don't have to worry about crushing primers

Mr. SandRoad, I was at a PPC match in New York early this month and picked up a nice quantity of 45acp brass that the owner preferred not to pick up.
After sorting through the cases, and I'm glad I did, I found about 15% of them were SPP. Horrendous!
You are more than welcome to root through my brass scrap bin for these cases.

Sounds to me like you are just somebody who hates change. There is no technical problem with using small primers and the presumption seems to be that after a few year phase in period, no more .45 Auto will be produced with large primers. Then you won't have to worry about sorting it, it will all be the same again.
If you do some internet searching on the topic, you will find a lot of people who are wholly in favour of this development.
Both SP and LP works great on my Hornady LNL. The only action on the up is the primer set so very easy to tell if small primer into large case (no resistant) or large into small case (very stiff).
STOP when you feel something is wrong, don't force it like an drunken idiot and it's all good. Those that can't feel the primer going into the case and cries about crush primer need to either slow down or quit altogether.
OF COURSE at the range I tell all the SP shooters they are junk, even volunteer to recycle all that junk brass for them.
