Hey guys,

Please share your .45 Auto recipes. Did my first 100 as follows:

230gr Berry RN copper plated
CCI 300 Large pistol primers
Unique 5.2 gr
Lee reloading manual.

I am having a hard time trying to find the right powder loads for specific bullets it seems. The manual has inconsistent load data for various bullets and powders. IE - no data for 230 gr copper plated with unique. So do I use the lead 230gr lead table or the 230 gr jacketed???


I seem to come across this on my 9mm too.

Thought?
 
I run with Frontier 230's plated over 7.1 gn of Longshot, Rem 2½ primers, Rem/Starline brass. I don't see to many people use LS though. I find it pretty consistent and accurate. At least that's what my groups tell me.:cool:

I just got a mould to cast my own 230 grain round nose bullets from hard lead, I have loaded 50 rounds using 4.7 grns Unique...hoping that they feed well in both my 1911's.Started with a mild load for two reasons...one of my 1911's is old and I don't want to stress it out with hot loads,secondly both of my guns dent the casings as they are ejected using factory rounds.
I am loading .45 Colt and .45ACP and am now casting for both..I hate paying 18-20 cents per bullet only to poke a hole in some paper.
 
you can run LEAD all you want in the 45, provided you keep the velocity below 1100 or use a harder cast bullet- i load 1/7 or 8 or 10 whatever the mag will hold with the jacketed on the bottom to clean out the barrel- you can't MAKE that bullet go fast enough with that case to justify the use of a jacketed unless you step into the wold of UNSAFE loads
and mine's the old bowling pin load- 200 grain swc, 6 grains of 231, and whatever case-( and the new manuals list that as a overload, but DON'T beleive them in this case- 6.2 is the REAL top end)

I am a big fan of Alliant's bulk shotgun powder, PROMO. Promo is just like RedDot. Promo is a very energetic powder, in the fast burning class.
For 45acp with your 230 jacketed Berry's I would recommend starting at 3.8-3.9 of RedDot and going to 4.0.
A very nice lead cast 200grain SWC load would also be about the same.
 
I shoot berrys 230gr rn's too. My powder charge is 5.9 gr. Universal clays powder and i use federal primers.

Uhhh, wow, that sounds really hot for Clays on a plated bullet.

Is your gun / barrel modded to run hotter?

Where can I get specs for barrels? My R1 Enhanced is suppose to be 'match' grade - does this mean I can run hotter loads?

Note that there are three types of clays powder - Universal, International and plain Clays. They are NOT interchangeable.

Hodgons UNIVERSAL Clays....not Clays. Max load is 6.0 according to Sierra manual. Easy mistake to make I wont razz ya too bad about it.:p
