Ken waters said that 800x was the best powder for the 45acp. Nothing against 700x but I find 800 to be much better.

Do not use my load for any firearm. It is not safe to shoot in any gun.

That being said I use 10gr of 800x and a mag primer with 230gr hp. It bends the rim on ejection but my 1911 is built to take it.

not sure who he is, but i will say, WTF are you thinking? :eek:

Oh and 700x says it is the most accurate load in the book i have.

I am thinking that it is a 45 acp++p load. I have used higher amounts of powder but found them over pressured.

For plinking loads I use 6.5 gr unique with a 200gr swc.

I use 5.5gn universal and cci primers. Otherwise identical.

I am shooting a 45ACP Carbine. The brass get very dirty when shooting factory ammo.
What is the cleanest powder for the 45ACP?

For 230gn Berry RN, CCI LP, TiteGroup 4.5gn
For 230gn lead WW cast Lee TL RN, CCI LP, Titegroup 4.0-4.5gn

Does anyone tumble their ALOX/XLOX rounds?
Seems to make a mess of my 1911. Wondering if tumbling would remove the ALOX off the tip for cleaner shooting.
 
H&G 200 gr. SWC cast in 50/50 WW/Range Scrap, NRA formula lube,Fed. Large pistol primer,whatever case, and 5.3 gr. of 70's vintage SR4756.A bit of unburnt powder residue, a little dirty, but it works.This thread comes at the right time, was just thinking of trying a new propellant.
 
Interesting, no one has mentioned VV powders. Try 6.5gr of VV340 with Winchester primers and Remington's 230 gr HP Golder Sabres @ 925 fps (5" bbl.) Got this load from an American retired LEO who carried it for self defence, and he found it about the most accurate load he had ever put together.
 
I have tried all kinds recipies. Someone who really knew their stuff turned me on to 4.6 grains of WST behind 230gr plated and I have never looked back. Clean and super accurate.
 
Plated bullet data lies somewhere between cast and FMJ. I lean more towards FMJ loading data.

For 230s i load:
AIM 230 plated RN
Bullseye 4.9 gr
CCI 300 primers
OAL: 1.232
PF:177
 
and since we are sharing:

185gr JHP
4.2 gr Clays
CCI 300 primer
OAL: 1.181"
PF: 139

200 gr LSWC
5.5 gr Bullseye
CCI 300 primer
