45 Auto JHP vs Auto Glass and Car Door

you can see the penetration if you watch closely. the bullet stops in the gel block which is usually 20 inches i think.
Sooooo, hardball .45 acp has enough energy to be fatal even through automotive glass!? Am I missing something?
in the video its a jhp but hardball as well would be lethal. lots of folks think 45acp has bad penatration. im starting to see thing differently. but no your not missing anything.
Almost any centerfire pistol round will go through auto safety glass and can be lethal. Don't think this video shows us much other than the tumbling of the bullet, most likely making it tear more tissue.
9mm/.40 will go through a car's sheet metal as well... possibly other calibers too. You can be killed right through your door, I'm sure auto glass is less of a barrier. Even slow 380acp fmj went through a car door:

yes, but it will be very shallow, and the glass will still break. A second round in the same location will probably enter. Spent a couple hours with an old windshield shooting with 9 and 45 hardball one day to see what it would do at different angles.
Good to know. Dirty Harry saw so many 38s careening of car windshields, he had to get a 44. I also wonder about shooting car doors at angles, but they are a formal bunch at my range.
I think the video test showed that the bullet did not change angle. Some do when hitting a car front window.

Intermediate barrier penetration is pretty much the only reason to go with a pistol calibre other than 9mm.
9mm would penetrate better then the 45. i posted the video as ive seen people say that 45 is a poor penatrator.
Depends on the material.
Some materials, like kevlar, tend to break down against higher velocity rounds. You're more likely to put a light 9mm round through a few sheets of kevlar than a .45.
Materials not designed to prevent penetration typically fare better against velocity and worse against mass. If you shoot through building materials, say, or cars, massive projectiles work better.
That can be positive or negative, depending on your needs and restrictions.

That frying pan video was interesting I would have thought the 45 would have had enough energy to penetrate it.
yup, ive posted that video before. He used hollow points at one point as well, a hollow point acts like a FMJ if it doesn't have the right medium to expand.
