Not so sure about energy transfer but a bullet that cuts blood vessels or severes the nervous system works well. If you reload a 255 gr FP .45LC will do very nicely if it has sharp shoulders and a wide meplat. RN bullets tend to push aside blood vessels, the latter being elestic, without doing a lot of damage. I would be concerned about the mussel flash from the .45LC if you let one off in the dark though. 9MM HP or .45acp would be better choices I suspect. .357 mag is going to leave you deaf and if at night, blind as well for a short period of time - hell come to think of it so will my .45acp - at least on the hearing anyway.
