Anyone reloading 45 Colt with HS6?

I use HS6 for my 357mag loads and had had good result as long as I loaded them hot, with mag Primers and heavy crimp. I found some 45 colt loads in a few reloading books and just curious if anyone has first hand experience with these loads?

Hodgdons website lists HS-6 with their .45 Colt loads but I see no warmer loads for Ruger, TC Contender etc.

I double checked with my yearly Hodgdon's reloading manuals magazines and only the lower pressure 45 Colt loads are listed.

Cast bullet cowboy loads use faster powders like TiteGroup, Clays, etc

HS6 gets better results with magnum primers. I have used it for hot 38Spl, so 45 Colt should be similar. Use for hot loads. Might be erratic for mild loads. max loads.

200 - 14 gr 1,250 fps

260 - 10 gr 800 fps

Go to the ruger forum .com & check out the "ammo & reloading" section. There is a lot of good experiences in a thread there about using this powder in 45 colt!

I use it in my .32 H&R cartridge handloads with good satisfaction. I have found the groups tighten up getting closer to the Max load.... I use magnum primers! Kills most tin cans & rabbits...;)

There are really 2 sets of loading data for the 45 Colt. ordinary revolvers and Rugers. A Ruger load is well beyond max in a non-Ruger, so be careful when looking at data.

I have one of each, so have to be very careful when taking ammo and the non Ruger to the range.

In a firearm of "Ruger and TC Contender" strength, you can use load data for the 44 Rem Mag for the 45 Colt, and the result will be lower pressure than listed for the 44 Rem Mag.

For example where for a 200 gr bullet 16.7 grs of HS-6 would yield 1569 fps at 37,700 CUP in the 44 Rem Mag, the same load in the 45 Colt would produce lower MV and pressure, perhaps ~1300 fps and ~30,000 CUP.
