45 Colt Round ball loads?

Just wondering if anyone has made up any round ball loads for the 45 colt? I was thinking of getting in a .454 round ball mold which will fit my bore better than the 452 but I was also thinking of maybe getting a 457 mold and sizing down to give it a bit more bearing surface on the bore(flat side to the ball). Thoughts?

And for crimp I'm assuming either don't use one or just crimp behind the point of largest diameter?

The round ball loads will work but if you're going to cast anyways, why not cast a proper .45 Bullet at .454" or bigger? They will be much more accurate, and molds are avail. in that size because of the pre-war Colt's .454" bore. The RB will prolly lead because it has no lube and also may just strip on the rifling because of such little contact.

I was going to do it as a plinking load as it only takes about 145gr of lead instead of 250 or 300gr. Really it's something to play with and have fun with because its different.

I've done it in a 4.75" .45 Colt Ruger Blackhawk and a 7.5" Bisley. I used the .454 Speer swaged RB tumble lubed with Alox and a charge of Unique sufficient to hit 650 FPS. It was accurate enough to hit soda cans at 25m and did not lead appreciably...
