I'm loading 45 colt for a Marlin lever action and I'm getting blow back from the cases not sealing the chamber even at what I'm considering max loads. I'm using titegroup and Unique with new Winchester brass and 200gr commercial cast bullets. Wondering if a annealing the case mouths would help.

Annealing the case mouths will help. I was playing with reduced loads for cowboy action and was getting a lot of soot and blowback. I tried 50 cases and they sealed better. Never got around to doing the rest since I just couldn’t get enough time to do cowboy.

Have you thought about using a heavier bullet? I have never loaded for the 45 Colt but my books tell me that 200 gr cast is towards the light end for this caliber with 250 gr being more common. Just a thought.

I'm stuck with the 200gr for now, they were all I could get at this time. In the future I hope to possibly cast my own and I plan to get a 250gr mould. I've went as high as 7.7gr of Titegroup and 10gr Unique. As an aside accuracy was better towards the top end as well. My rifle is a newer Marlin so it is possible the chamber is on the large side. I can live with the blowback if I have to but if its as easy as annealing the cases why not. I have annealed rifle brass before with a drill/socket and torch set up I've just never tried pistol brass.
