Has anybody done any experimentation with hodg. int. clays ? close to green dot in burning rate yet no load data for it anywhere , I would like to try it with .45 swc 200 gr if i'm crazy let me know or better yet if you have any resources i'd appreciate that also.

Be careful, that thread is about "Clays" not "International Clays".

Hodgon has three "Clays" powders, "Clays", International Clays" and "Universal Clays". Each is quite different.

I'm assuming you mean .45 ACP not .45 Colt. I've never seen a .45 ACP load for International but the Hodgon site does list loads for Universal and Clays, 5.8 and 3.6 grains respectively for starting loads. Note the more than 2.0 grain starting load!!

You often see people listing loads for Clays when they really mean Universal.

Ahhh...good you already spotted the difference. :)

Sorry I can't help on the International, I've never come across any loads for International.

I steer clear of 'clays' and 'universal' for this very reason....
 
Hodgdon's own site doesn't list international in any pistol calibers that I could see, I didn't check them all, but didn't see it in any I did check. Perhaps send them an email or give them a call, it might be that that powder is not appropriate. They want to sell powder, if it were an ideal match, they'd list it to be sure.

Seems they only market it as a shotgun powder;

I ran your data through Quickload using Green Dot. There is no Intl. Clays option in the program. Looks like the max would be around 5.9 gr for Alliant Green Dot and your 200gr Hornady 12108 SWC. MV = 974 fps.

Quickload is an interesting tool but I don't trust it 100%.

Aside from this, I use 5.9 gr Vv N320, which is hot, under a 185gr JSWC. It gives me 960 fps out of a 3.9" barrel. Less than 5.7 gr won't reliably cycle.

I spoke with one of the ballisticians at Hodgdon a year or so ago about Int'l Clays in handgun cals and they sent me a printed copy of their loading data that is not (for the most part) on-line. The only data listed for Int'l Clays in handgun is for light revolver loads with cast/swaged lead bullets only and are all relatively very low in velocity.

I am hesitant to use it due to the very small powder charges involved and the very real possibility of inadvertantly throwing double charges. Anyone want a deal on two sealed 4 pound kegs of Int'l Clays???
