45 gap cartridge

anybody have much experience with this cartridge? curious to know if the grip feels much different compared to a 45 acp? i've noticed the springfield xd comes in both and that is the pistol i am most interested in at this moment.
 
Apparently there is little space in the cartridge and you must be careful when reloading, that I have heard so far.
 
I've shot thousands through my G37 and reloaded just as many. Its very good in light loads or IPSC major loads, with all bullet weights, from 185gr. to 230gr. I like the fact I don't have to change primer sizes when changing to load .40 or 9mm. Lots of load data on the .45GAP if you look, the Lyman's 3rd is a must!
 
If you look at the gun rags you will find the 45 GAP to be a great cartridge and an accurate one. I shot a Springer XD45 and I was impressed. Would I own a 45 Gap? YOU BETCHA! Regards, Richard :D
 
thanks for the replies guys. i've been on springfields website and it seems they offer a 45 acp, but in a double stack as opposed to a single. if they offered a single stack acp i probably wouldnt bother with the gap, maybe one will be in the works.
 
I pesonally dislike this cartridge. A friend of mine has a Glock 37, and I found it was the same recoil as my Glock 21...a real .45 I might add, .45 Auto!!!

This GAP crap was Glocks poor attemp to introduce it's own cartridge into the "game"...mabee Gaston Glock thought he would have a super-popular round after him like the infamous .40 S&W. Not to knock Glock or nothing...I own a G17 and a G21 and I love them both. Glocks kick ass PERIOD!!!

The .45 GAP will never take off as Gaston Glock intended, nor will it be as popular as the REAL .45 cartridge......and that ladies & gentlemen is the .45 ACP...thats, Automatic Colt Pistol !!!

A product that has been developed with LEO and Gov agents in mind. Now they can have 45 rounds in a 9mm frame.

It's pretty moot... You can already put a .40 cal on a 9mm frame. Virtually no difference in stopping power between .40 cal & .45 cal performance ammo... :rolleyes:

1. it should have the same recoil as ballistically it is identical in standard offerings.

2.ok, so glock might want a round named after him. i also understand, during my research on this cart, that some people in the industry, such as chuck taylor, were requesting such a round be made. i suppose manufacturing would also be simplified as the 9mm, .40, and .45 could all share common parts. i recall also hearing that some LE agencies were looking for .45 power in a .40 sized pistol, likely to accomodate those with smaller hands (women).

3. powerwise, most writers recommend the standard .45 acp loadings anyhow for defense situations, especially with the 230 grain offering. i don't think anyone smacked with either would know much of a difference.

that's because .40 was designed to fit into 9mm frame, .45 and 10mm are longer tharefore need a larger grip/frame.

but I agree there's little diff. between .40 .45 and of course 9mm :)
 
Whats the difference in shell length??? 3 millimeters...big deal, you can fit the .45 Auto in the same frame as the GAP for sure, hands down!

Kicks the same too...and much harder to find stocked on the shelves than the .45 Auto.

both springfield and para ordinace have built 1911's with the grip frame compressed in the neighbourhood of .125 of an inch, makeing a huge feel in the way the pistol fits the hand. I hate the thought of having to scrabble up odd ball brass to shoot it ( the gap) but man for those of us with short fingers the gap framed (not just rechambered) 1911's are the cats meow:dancingbanana: (now if they would import them to Kanada).
 
I have both the XD9 and the new XD45ACP (13 rounds of 45) and they both feel the same in my hand. I measured the thickness and width and the thickness is the same and witdth is about 20 to 30 thousands bigger for the 45 - springfield did an incredible job with this pistol.
 
Sorry Mr. Berretta but the .45 ACP is not the real 45.....the .45 Long Colt is...and it Kicks the .45ACP's a___!!!
 
I handled an XD45ACP for the first time last week. I can't agree that it feels the same as my XD9 or my recently departed XD40, quite honestly...the grip does feel a tad fatter in my munchkin hands (still very comfortable, though), but the mag release is just that much further away that I have to twist the pistol in my hand reach it, which I don't have to do with my XD9.
 
i just read a post on one of the gun magazine response lists, where one of the writers felt that the gap was "demonstratably quieter than the acp", has anyone else had that experience? i have poor ears so this interests me greatly.

I have not noticed the .45GAP round being quieter than .45ACP. To me its just as loud as a 9mm or .40S&W.

For me, I love the fact my .45 Glock has the same size frame as my G17 and G22, it makes my shooting seemless when I use the G37. I find the G21 too big in the grip, even though I have very large hands I have never been sold on the size of the G21. For me the G37 is a well thought out design, a great gun and cartridge combo and everybit a .45 as all of those who claim that it will never be a .45ACP. My chrony doesn't lie, a .45 bullet travelling the same speed from a much smaller package really is something if you ask me! For all of those who disagree, pick up one and shoot some rounds, you might find you like it more than an ACP? I don't own a .45ACP and see absolutely no reason to now that there's a G37 on the market with the ammo selection thats available.

I find reloading the .45GAP to be straighforward with Titegroup and Longshot being great powders to work with. 6.2gr. of Longshot with a 230gr. FMJ equals WWB ammo and is my practice round, good ballistics and power! Being a .45 round there is a tremendous supply of bullets to choose from in reloading.
