Hi folks,

I will be the owner of a Norinco .45 1911 "Sport " and am after some advice on what projectiles run well in this pistol?
I will solely reload and use a coated lead projectile... just need to know will it shoot round nose ,semi wads , or ball etc ... any advice would be real good :)

Cheers Anthony....

Does this pistol have a ramped barrel ?

First of all welcome to the board Aussie, lots of great people here with a common goal of keeping the shooting sports alive.

I have an older Norinco and right out of the box I can run anything thru it without a jam. Mine loves H&G 68 200 grn semi-wadcutters. I actually haven't heard of too many norinco's that are fussy with ammo. I have three of them and they all eat what ever I feed them.

I would start with a 230gr round nose bullet and then go from there.

I'm curious as to what you mean by "coated lead projectile"?

:) well it aint Candy .... its a hard cast bullet with a coating .... some kind of hard lube ... ? Not sure what it is made of . Molysomething ?
They get dipped in the stuff and it dries hard ... seems to work well, we cant afford jacketed bullets down here for sporting use... these run at about $45.00 USD per 500 ( 9 mm ) ... cheers Ant

I've seen those "coated" lead projectiles. Those coated bullets I have seen were Speer 230 grain round nose and the coating looks like some kind of lube.

Anyhow, I have shot LSWC, LRN and LTC (truncated cone) from my Norkies and the only problem I have are with the truncated cone types, homecast from 50-50 WW/pure lead in the Lee 230 grain tumble lube design. With this truncated cone design, I would have failure to feed about 2 percent of the time and the bullet's corner would be stuck on the barrel throat.

RN and SWC designs have been flawless as far as feeding is concerned.

Thats nuts. I dont remember from when I lived there (being a kid and all) but are there any Australian ammunition manufacturers who market to the public? ie. the kind of thing found in any McEwans or Milk Bar?

*EDIT* Now that I think about it, I never remember seeing ammo in either of those spots, just trading cards and Humphrey Bear shaped ice cream.

Like others my experience ahs been the Norincos will shoot anyting you load in them. The gun does not have a ramped barrel but uses part of the frame and part of the barrel as the ramp.

You have moly coated boolits that will work just fine in your gun.

Take care

Bob

Bluemike... :) ... we have the Aussie made Winchester plant right here in Geelong !!! As far as i know they make .22 rounds.. Subsonic, xpert, z, powerpoint, etc etc, and shotgun stuff...not sure about centrefire rifle or pistol though ?
When i was a kid (1978 ) i remember they sold shotguns and .22 rifles in Kmart ! I even remember when i was 15 ( 1985 ) we bought some 12 G solids at K Mart :)... ah those were the days !
Most people down here have been instructed by the media / gvmnt that guns are BAD ! and must be banned in all shapes and forms ... so we dont have a big demand and storres wont risk being "Outlaws "... lol

Mine likes heavier bullets

My norinco likes 230 gr roundnose over 3.8 grs of clays oal 1.245. also likes 250 gr over 3.8 grs of clays oal 1.245. for factory, it loves american eagle 230gr fmj. I put a heavier recoil spring in a wolf 18.5#. the 250 gr load makes major for IPSC. the 250 also smokes pins of the table and hammers plates. shoots soft and crazy clean. Guys try to buy my gun when they shoot this load out of it. I use the 230 for PPC.

One thing I have noticed in my Norc 45s is that they have very short throats. the bullets have to be seated deep so that no parallel section is forward of the mouth.

They feed 200 SWC just fine.

Funny as it may seem, the only bullet they don't feed well is the 200 gr round flat nose.

x2
A little deeper is better I have found with berry's 200gr tmjhp's. but once you find the magic lenth its all good! :)

This all sounds good. Seems the Norinco's aren't fussy. From what I read they are great guns on all accounts, especially considering their low cost. Makes me happy I have a Norinco .45 on the way.
