.45 love? suggestions for a new .45 to buy?

The S&W M&P would be my choice for a non-1911 .45.

If a 1911, what is your budget? Do you want a GI-style gun, something with more modern features, or something in between? My picks would be:

-Project gun: Norinco GI model
-Budget, with more bells and whistles: Ruger
-Higher end production: Colt or Dan Wesson

Pretty much dead bang, as far as I'm concerned - maybe a high end STI in the 1911 flavour.

I've played with a few different pistols in .45, if I had to choose one it would be a Springfield. My hand me down Mil Spec is a forever keeper.

In 1911, if money is not an objet, Springfield TRP, bang for the buck Sig1911 TacOps or Ruger Sr1911.

I'm looking at the CZ97 right now and it looks like it should be one to consider as well.

Pretty much dead bang, as far as I'm concerned - maybe a high end STI in the 1911 flavour.

I don't care for the cosmetics of the STIs with their huge slide markings and coarse slide serrations, but they are another reasonable choice at that price point.

Before someone says "A gun is a tool; who cares what it looks like," I will point out the following:
1. If we were being entirely coldy rational, we wouldn't even be talking about 1911s in the first place.
2. For that amount of money, appearances do matter to me.
