I was given a box of 18 of these many years ago by a guy who knew I had colt 45s. I was wondering
about the 22 magazine at the end.

The mags with the lanyard loops are desirable to collectors of early 1911s especially the two tone models.

Stupid idea, as you find out the first time you seat one of them .....

That .22 magazine may be for the Colt Ace - Colt's attempt at a .22 pistol on a .45 frame for training built in the 20's-30's (I think).

Sharps '63 is right about the lanyard loop magazines - they are somewhat rare and the two tone magazines even more so.

Lucky score!!

There are actually three (3) variations of the lanyard loop magazine. 1) the full blued; 2) the heat treated (two tone) with the heat treat only about 1 inch in length and 3) the heat treated (two tone) that goes below the magazine catch hole. The vintage of the M1911 pistol will determine which one is appropriate. Thus all are desirable to the right person.

There are more than 3 variants, as other nations built 1911 pistols both under license and not. I.E. Norwegian 1914 pistols are under license from Colt and they produced a lot of magazines for their 11.25mm pistols. The above photo looks like at least one of those is in fact Norwegian produced.
A few years ago I purchaced about 10 of those for about $25 per. Most were a worn parkarized finish. No identifiable markings. A couple had dents that I pounded out by inserting a socket. They all function well.

Where these magazines came from,
Prince Rupert BC, had 1000’s of American troop on there way,
with Canadian troops to Alaska
In 1946 my dad worked on big military barges dumping American and Canadian Military Equipment at two different Ocean dumping grounds
