45 Schofield ammo

The new uberti schofields are mostly in 44-40 or 45 colt....

Interesting tidbit that I got from Grumpy at Wolverine is that Uberti is making smiths in .44 Russian with the proper short cylinder, in addition to the scaled-up version required to shoot the 44-40/45Colt.

I don't recall if .45 Schofield is in there as well. I want a S&W Russian. I think I'd reload 44 Russian if the gun was dimensionally accurate for it, for the more realistic flavour. :)

My adventure with 45 Schofield started with Ubertis - I have Walker, Dragoon and 1860 Army and wanted to take them out on occasion to the range and shoot without the ceremony of black powder loading. So, after some research there came the Kirst converters.
And, after some more reading there came the Schofield cartridge as a choice for occasional relaxed shooting and reloading for those three. With 45 LC being slightly too long for the length of the Kirst cylinder. Now it is a matter of making Kirst to fit the frame. It sounded quite easy when I read how others dealt with it. For starters cylinder face had to be shaved off to accommodate the slightly thicker rim of Schofield. Opening the loading port on the frame to accommodate change from 6 shot to 5 shot. And dealing with the slightly loose and occasionally malfunctioning cylinder assembly. For now I am being cautiously optimistic.
