Not much info on the board, and not much presence here in Canada it seems. Does anyone know about the availability of brass for the 450 Bushmaster or have any direct input on the cartridge? Seems like a nice short action 200 yard cartridge, but figured I'd find out more about it before getting stuck in with it.

I'm interested in this cartridge. Was looking at getting Ruger American Ranch. Only place that has one is Cabelas and they want $780 which I think is a bit on the high side when the other Americans are around $600 and they were smart enough not to bring any ammo in for the guy who buys it to shoot. Kinda puts a damper on buying it.
No one else seems to have one in stock and can't locate ammo either.

It intrigues me, but my pockets aren't deep enough currently. I want something bigger and slower than my usual go-to calibers (270, 243, 303) but I'm not really sure this one is quite what I'm looking for. Currently I'm leaning towards the 9.3x57, it'll launch bullets of similar weight at similar velocities, but with a much better sectional density.

I've been drawn to the 450 as well, but haven't done anything about the it yet. I do have a couple 9.3x57 rifles and like the cartridge very much. The 9.3x57 is a good cartridge for reloaders. Brass can be made easily from 8x57, components are easy to find, and good quality reasonably priced mauser rifles are in abundance.

The reason that there is very little interest is because we can't hunt with AR-pattern rifles in Canada. For Canadians, the 450 Bushmaster is the answer to a question that we never asked.

Apparently the 450 Bushmaster uses small rifle primers from what I have read. I looked at all the measurements on 6.5x284 cases (284 is the parent case) and they appear to be the same up to the point the case would need to be cut off. Would the large rifle primer as opposed to the small rifle primers be of any concern when reloading?

My local gun store ordered me in four boxes of the 450 Hornady bushmaster 250 gr FTX....had it within a week. I'm using the Ruger American Ranch that I got from Corlanes

How do you like the rifle? What is recoil comparable to? Accuracy?
Thanks,

can convert your bushmaster ACR to 450 which can be NR in the appropriate barrel length, however, the Rem 30AR is the peak of performance hunting wise out of a stanag pattern magazine

No problem to get stuff to reload the 450 Bushmaster...

Whether it is a good chamber or not????

For a SA bolt rifle, I like the idea of a 338 Federal or the 358 Winchester.

Thats basically my thinking on it too. While the idea of a 260gr bullet at 2200fps is intriguing, the sectional density of a 260gr 452cal bullet is less than spectacular. It would make a good deer gun perhaps, but I wouldn't want to pull it out for my moose hunt or anything. In all honesty, it would mostly be a novelty item that got taken deer hunting occasionally... Meanwhile, the slightly larger case of the 338fed, 358winchester, or even something like the 9.3x57 gives you a far better sectional density while still being able to fling heavy pills at more moderate speeds (compared to the 243 and 270 I usually shoot).
