All my stuff is for cast only, I don't really understand the need for jackets on a slug going 2000 or less. 400-420gr flatpoint over 30.0 gr SR4759 and CCI200 primers. I can heat treat these and they're great out to 200yds on paper, or leave them at about 18BHN and they're a good game load. Recoil is a bit stiff and isn't really required for deer. For a lighter practice OR deer load a 300gr flat nose over 31.0gr SR4759 and a CCI200 primer is easy to shoot. I only use this out to the 100yd mark, anything further and I'd use the 400gr stuff. For very light loads, minimum recoil, the 300gr Flat nose on top of 10-13gr of 700X or SR7625 are very accurate but only out to about 50yds. They can be shot to 100 but if there is any wind they tend to drift. I think these loads are sub 1000 fps and I light these with magnum primers. If it's cool day regular primers don't ignite the powder consistantly resulting in several fliers but using mags eliminates that problem. This load is so pleasant that you can easily touch off 50-100 rounds without developing a flinch, about like shooting a 223. I use this for 3 shot rapid fire practice on a deer target at 25yds. 3 shots in under 5 secs, all in the zone, is good pracitce if you ever hunt in thick bush. I've also loaded 50cal muzzleloader balls, pushed through a Lee sizer die. This ball, with parallel sides from the die, loads easily by hand. About 5-7 grs any fast shotgun powder and a bit of lube around the ball when you load it. This is a good grouse load, good out to 25yds. Sounds about like a 22 rimfire and no recoil whatsoever. I've found that heavy 400+gr slugs are much more accurate than the 300gr stuff but recoil is also much higher. I almost never shoot this from a bench unless I'm developing a load. Even then, fine tuning should be done offhand, or from a sitting position, not at the bench. Best of luck, go with cast.
