.450 Nitro No.1

IIRC I got some good load data from the guys on the accurate reloading forums. I can't find my notes on this cartridge and now that I think about it I believe I gave all my notes to my friend who bought the rifle from me.

As you know though, take it slow and steady working up past double rifle pressure territory.

Recoil was stout. I had a PVC tube that I cut to fit in the buttstock and filled with lead shot to give the rifle a bit more weight.

2400 FPS???? OMG!!!! You fine gents are NUTZ!!!!!!! And in a Ruger #1 at that..... I can’t imagine anything that walks this planet needs that much killin’!!!

I shoot a .450 Nitro and both barrels clock at an average of 2152 FPS using 480 grain Woodies. RN SN. Recoil is heavy but manageable in an 11 pound rifle with a well designed and bespoke stock that fits me like a glove. It kills DG just fine with power to spare. To boost up the power from this level, well, uh, sure, if you want to, why not? but it wouldn’t be of great interest to me personally to do so.

Before I forget to mention it, the lumber on your Ruger #1 is magnificent!!!!!

Magnificent rifle; not sure how I missed this thread up till now.

Buit, Angus...I could have sworn that I just read a post of yours in a thread devoted to complaints about recoil...and it sounded as though you had sworn off the big boomers, grown soft, and decided not to use anything bigger than a .243 for anything up to and including rhino...? I couldn't believe what I was reading; thought that your account must have been hacked or something.

So...were you trolling...?

Oh, my God...am I???
