Looks good so far. Walther barrel, Granite Mountain action? What are you planning for the stock?

Actually, the action is from Gotfried Prechtl's company Golmatic in Germany, and I made the barrel using a Krieger blank which started out at 1 5/8" diametre.

Yes, I know of Prechtl's actions - I didn't know they were available here. I bet it will be a nice rifle!

I just ordered it directly from them. It's a lot easier ordering guns and gun parts from Europe than than it is from the States. I still have to fit claw mounts before I start on the stock.

Will be watching for your progress pics. Looks terrific so far. Your barrel is turning out fantastic and your skill level is also very impressive. Do you have a piece of wood picked out? Would love to see a pic of that. Thanks for sharing!

Why claw mounts instead of EAW swing mounts?

That barrel is a whole 'nother animal, absolutely jaw dropping work. Would you consider doing a Krieger that way for a client (integral rib & stud, tapered octagon)? I have a Satterlee Mauser action on order and I'm looking to do something interesting for the barrel, your work is stunning, I haven't seen that level of barrel profiling in Canada. I know it wouldn't be cheap, and I'd love to hear from you.

yes - this promises to be a keeper -- the caliber is great, the metal is perfect...... a classic in the making.

Thank you all for the positive feed back. Here are some more details:
-I have to weld on top and bottom tang extensions similar to what you would find on a double rifle.
-Claw mounts with Swarovski Z6 1-6 scope
-There will be a tang safety
-The bottom tang will flow right into a trap grip cap
-The receiver, bottom metal and bolt will be case coloured
-A little engraving here and there and perhaps a gold band around the muzzle
-We haven't worked out the details for the stock, but it will be of classic design
-Here are a couple of pictures of the wood we will be using

Enjoyed those pics - great rifle in the making there! Nice to see such attention to detail and craftsmanship. The barrel contours look quite pleasing to my eye. Love to see more as the project takes form.

Fantastic project! IMHO I would't touch that factory temper. There is the possibility that during case coloring the receiver might get warped and the strenght of original temper lost. I also think that this great looking clasic asks for deep black rust bluing....

After emailing, this fellow knows steel better than anybody else on this forum likely, or at least as well as.

Also, the 450 Rigby cartridge has body lenght 2,4" or so. I have no idea what is the dia of barrel over the chamber in front of the tennon, what I am sure of is that the tennon lenght plus shoulder lenght appears to be much shorter than 2,4".... I am not writing it to criticize just to share the opinion b/c longer shoulder of a barrel over the chamber would have little bit more solid look to it. Everything else just looks fantastic.

Prechtl can supply these actions in either 4140 or 8620,(not exactly, but the European equivalent). The 4140 steel would be through hardened, and the 8620 would be case hardened (case coloured). We ordered the action unhardened in 8620 so that we could case colour after we do all the machine work and modifications to it. He provided me with the exact composition of the steel as well as the heat treating procedure for it.

I have had many actions case coloured with minimal dimensional changes. There is quite the art and science behind it. We have had a pair of Holland & Hollands, Heym, Itacha, and a number of other English guns case coloured with only slight changes that I had to deal with. That's part of the game.
