.450 webley?

is .450 webley available anywhere? i looked all over the site for some posts i read that you can mod... 45 casing but that does't sound safe

bigdawg, I have two revolvers in .455, which I believe is the same as .450. If you were to use 45 Colt brass, you would have to thin the rims a little bit from the side facing the case mouth and not on the headstamp or primer pocket side. .455 cases have very thin rims. A better choice if you were to go this route would be to use 45 Schofield brass since it has a larger diameter rim, more like the .455. Regards to safe, no problem at all, since the Webley is a low pressure round. Ellwood Epps sell .455 Webley Mk.II brass, which is the shorter version. I wish they sold the long stuff(Mk.I):(
 
.450 and .455 are not the same cartridge. .450 is shorter, usually has a lighter bullet and may have a thinner rim. Does'nt mean .455 wont chamber but it is not gaurented and any gun chambered for .450 could have been designed for lower pressures then what a lot of .455 guns were made for.

In most cases I use Fiocchi .450 Boxer ammo as a source of short cases......Italian Sporting goods at the coast has it and dealers can order it....not cheap......I've seen prices go from $55 to $75....

some ##### about the quality of the Fiocchi stuff but it's done well by me and some cases/ammo are so much better than none....

there are now several good sources of .455 cases in Canada.....some cheaper than others.........try Kerry Jenkinson or Doug Rayner...the new Hornaday MK 11 cases are good and chamber in most/some .450s.......a trimmer helps a lot.......there are several chamber lengths possible on the basic case head and even some nominal .450s vary on chamber length ....

I stand corrected:redface: Although here is a quote from an article I've just read. "In addition, there are .455 cartridges headstamped .450 and at one time the British Government approved the .450 for use in .455 revolvers." If you were a reloader, you could use .455 brass which is readily available, and trim them slightly.
