452 17 hmr just can t get dialed in

Thanks for the copper idea , I will preform a copper fouling purge! I had cleaned it but using regular technique. This time a copper cleaner will be used. I will get to test again Thursday or Friday if all goes well.

Any suggestions on copper remover. Seems like most recommended stuff is only available state side like wipe out.
 
I've been using either MPro7 gun cleaner in the spray bottle (they also sell a copper remover) or Hoppes Bench Rest 9. The MPro7 is supposed to do it's thing in 5 minutes and is virtually odourless, the Hoppes needs to sit in the barrel overnight and stinks to high heaven. I don't know if one is better than the other, my wife much prefers the MPro though.
Both seem to produce silky smooth clean barrels.
I don't shoot a lot of center fire jacketed bullets other than 9mm, I do usually see some blue-green residue out of that barrel when cleaned with either product.
The center fire target/precision forum will likely yield better results on your copper remover question than here, though many of us do shoot jacketed bullets too.

I use KG12, similar to the Mpro7 no ammonia so nearly odorless and strips the copper out twice as fast as other solvents. I ordered it through Brownells. You won't see any blue/green with it, but you can trust that the copper is gone after a couple soak and scrub sessions (soak 2-4 hours, patch out, soak 2-4 hours, patch out, 3-4 reps) unless your bore is really rough and fouls badly, then it'll need overnight treatment. I had one barrel that took a week to clean up soaking in ammonia solvent the entire time :eek: So I'm quite pleased that JC Custom Barrels gave me the word yesterday that my new barrel is ready for it :)
 
Ok ..to update on this. I reworked the stock to be able to slide a business card right to the action. Removed copper with Wipeout. Settled at 20 in/lbs.
The result was .2 and .25 with three shot groups. Wind was gusty 12 to 15 kph. 17 grain tnt.
So thanks to all for the helpful info it s what makes this site great.
