.455 for a Webley - any ideas?

"...are there rim thickness issues..." Yep. I think it's just a matter of thining the rim and cutting to length. Find a copy of Cartridge Conversions. The how-to is in there. Your local gun shop should have it. Amazon.ca, if not. Not cheap though.

I ordered 50 x 45 scofeild Starline cases cases as i understand the rim DIA is wider on the scofeild than the 45 long colt.
so extracting the scofeild cases should work better than the colts tho Webley Pryse no 4 extracts the 45 colts and the webley Wilkinson 1892 Also,
I just want to try the 45 scofeild case.

I will still have to trim the front of the rim tho.
I like the 455 Domion cases the best as you get the extra lengh, But there geting hard to find.
I bought a lifetime supply of Starline Schofield cases a few years back. Made an arrangement with a machinest to do the job for me - did it in a fraction of the time it would have taken me. I think .45 Schofield makes the best cases for unaltered Webley's, but of course that's just my opinion.

You will find the Schofield cases are longer than your Webley can handle, so you will have all the extra length you want. I tried them in all the Webley cylinders while it was dirty while determining maximum case length. When they would drop all the way in without hanging up, I trimmed them back a tad more and then called that my trim length

So when you slug the barrel you should lube the bullet and then tap it through the muzzle first?
I don't see any point to slugging a Webley -the cylinder throats are smaller than the barrel. Your .455 bullets are going to get squeezed down plenty before they ever get to the barrel.

I have literally owned dozens of the MkVI Webley, I started buying them for less than $100 I got my brass and ammunition from a variety of gunshows. I got about 120 rounds of 12 round military packages from Milarm. I bought a box in the last couple of years from Shooters Choice, the Italian stuff. It was more expensive than buying at shows. I have also made some out of 45 Colt brass, and as a few other have said remove the metal from the front of the rim. Keep going to shows and auctions, I found that they have the better prices and variety.

The .455 Club

Is there some 455 Webley cult I didn't hear about but accidentally joined? Seems there's no shortage of interest in the old girls.

Guess I'm in the club, too. Have a S&W Handejector in .455 that my Dad gave me. He had it since the '50's...

I got myself a good supply of the Dominion .455 Colt ammo & brass. I don't shoot the old girl much so I think I have enough components to last for years. But I still buy the .455 Dominion ammo & brass where I find it at gunshows. The loaded ammo is still usually $1 a round. I have a custom set of non-carbide RCBS .455 dies but found that I can just as readily reload the .455 cases with a set of Lee carbide .45ACP dies. Just have to use a #5 shell holder [same shell holder at .303 Brit].

Have looked at the new Fiocchi ammo at the local gunshop, too. But haven't bought or used any... It's $55 per 50 round box.
