457 Varmint vs MTR - Accuracy

How's the SK Magazine bulk stuff (500 rnd can) work in CZ Match chambers? Wonder if that could be acceptable gopher ammo.

My experience with SK Magazine is that it’s crap ammo. But CCI Standard Velocity instead. YMMV.

I'll have to see if CCI SV chambers in a match barrel. Have a couple Match chambers and have never tried, heard they don't fit. Will have to try.

I've shot great groups with magazine then the next is garbage. I'd say it's the Standard+ that failed QC.
It's not cheap enough to be worthwhile around here.

So far sk magazine has given me the best results. Approaching enough within 1/2" to put me on that list around here but always a flyer on the page.
Accurate enough that I've stopped looking for anything else.
CCI SV in the plastic cases (100) jams in the lands and doesn't give great results because of it.
CCI SV in the cardboard boxes (50), on the other hand, doesn't jam in the lands, and was my go to before SK.
All are good enough for gophers in the MTR.

I have watched videos of people shooting good groups out of the Pro Varmint without the match grade chamber.
I am tempted to go this route to avoid issues using cheaper ammo for positional shooting practice.

If a match grade chamber shoots expensive match grade ammo excellently that’s one thing however if I can still get good accuracy and have the ability to shoot cheaper stuff with a non match grade chamber that might be better for me.

I just don’t want to end up buying an MTR and having to spend $10+/50 shots of high end ammo (and yes I know there are brands that are even more expensive)

Question here, I bought a barreled action of the 457, on the action it’s mark as Match, does it means I have the MTR chamber ?, with SK+ it will group easily.250” @ 50 yrds and 1” or less at 100 yards. Thanks

Yes, Magazine is their 'lowest grade' of .22LR, per one of their websites last Fall. Can't find it now, cleaned my 'bookmarks' last month to kill time. They 'test fire' lots and grade them accordingly, from Match levels on down - don't recall how many lines they run.

Not quite true, the At-One also has a match chamber. TC

You're quite right. There's a third 457 with a match chamber. Edit to add: When it first appeared, the At-One didn't have a match chamber.

If it has match on it, it should mean it has a CZ match chamber barrel.

It should be noted that it's incredible that any rifle "easily" and regularly shoots five shot groups of .25" with SK Standard Plus at 50 yards. Except for random acts of accuracy, and regardless of the rifle used, that ammo isn't expected to produce such levels of accuracy repeatably. Same goes for frequent sub-MOA at 100 yards.

If you practice a lot, you will quickly outshoot CCISV in your less stable CRPS type positions. Off the bench it will happen right away. A match chamber in a “lucky accurate” barrel will make SK S+ worth it. Like Glenn says, SKS+ will not shoot reliably under an inch at 100. The bulk of the 10 shot group will be close, but 2-3 will go high or low. It’s the price of basic ammo. Until you show targets that people believe, it’s internet boasting. We know because we have tested it ourselves.
