4570

Mine is in MTM cartridge boxes. Seriously, its one of the cartridges that benefits most, economy and performance, by reloading.

Alternately, shoot factory(knowing its loaded down to trapdoor performance) and sell your brass to offset the cost. Hornady flex tip brass is not preferred for reloading, its.1/10 short.

I handload, especially since I only shoot black powder 45-70 loads. If you can get accurate black powder loads, all other hand loading is easy by comparison ;)

Handload no question, Campro even sells 45-70 bullets now not as cheap as cast bullets but not much more and still way cheaper the other brands and its a copper plated bullet so no need to gas check. I use the 405gr myself but they have 300 and i think another size

Ok and do any of you use those cheap lee loaders that you hammer? I dont shoot a lot and portability would be good. It only neck sizes and i have a lever marlin stainless.

I wouldn't recommend the Lee Loader (about the only product of theirs I have used that I wouldn't recommend). I had a primer detonation while using one in .44 Mag. If you want portability, I would say get a set of dies, the hand loader and a hand primer.

single stage press with dies is better imo, but a lee loader will work. just be aware loading with the lee loader will take much more time than a press would. I started with a lee hand press and still use it to this day.

You guys have given me some thing to think about, thank you.
Does anyone have a book they can send me some pictures of the 4570 section?

There are 3 sections to the 45-70 reloading data, trapdoor data, lever action data and ruger number 1 data

Pick up the Lee Handloading 2nd edition or whatever it's called. Lots of info on cast, and pressure. Has volumetric data, and probably most data out of all the books. Used to be a steal at $20, and see it go on sale once in while for $10.

I just picked up a Sharps in .45-70 a bit ago. Plan to get into reloading for it eventually, but for the time being my local CT store has boxes of Sellier & Bellot 405gr stuff for $33 a box, which is giving me better than expected accuracy, and a good amount of brass for later use.

Not sure if Vernon would be worth the drive for you, but you may be able to find the same at the Williams Lake store, or Kamloops?
