458-416 Ruger.....Some rifle pics up now.

458 Crippling Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

I assume that was aimed at me, still haven't gotten over the last time you humiliated yourself on the 9.3X300 thread, I guess. Not sure how sharing a wildcat project, with potentially interesting and useful results, would be classed as a "Crippling Narcissistic Personality Disorder"..........projecting perhaps?

Johnn, enlighten us RHH? Your input I DO value !!

Just a combination of letters acknowledging the cartridge origins as I understand them. Ruger and Holland & Holland.

Side issue, recently returned from a month long visit to Great Britain where I was fortunate to be invited to take part in a sporting clays shoot at Lady's Wood Shooting School in the Chipping Sodbury area. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience:D:D.

Duncan, our instructor in the main room at the club house.

Yours truly and my wifes relative Andrew who was responsible for my invite.

My turn.

However;), if you want to see someone really drool, follow me around at a gun shop there;).

:redface:Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread but it was a memorable experience for me and a great trip.

A souvenir, they gave me one of their club shooting hats.

Hijack approved, no problem, but I'm aghast.........a Brit using an O/U and not a SXS, my God whatever is this society coming to...........LOL

Back on topic, not sure where you see the H&H fitting into this cartridge. Were they the first to introduce the 458 dia ? I know Rigby was the first to make the 450 NE, but there were BPEs in 450 before that. I also know that the 45-70 was the first 458 in NA offered up by Springfield in the trap door for the army. Need to re-word that..........I believe it was but don't KNOW it for a fact.

Laugh2 Good point and that was my first observation and comment to Duncan our instructor:). Then,;) I got to drool on some more traditional quality English doubles. I have one

but there, I felt like 'a kid in a candy store'.
The 'H&H' I took from your choice of the 375 H&H case as the basis for forming 'your' cartridge case.

I'm afraid I can't take any credit there, Johnn, I'm just using the 375 brass to alleviate the short comings of the Hornady offerings, the base cartridge design is pretty much all Ruger and as noted one could use the Ruger/Hornady offerings if pressures are kept to lawyer standards. A guy could use any full length case to make the brass the way I will, 8mmRM, 416 Rem, 458 Lott etc. I just decided on 375 H&H because I picked up a couple hundred new W-W cases that I can butcher.

;):)That would be a good enough reason for me. Oh, at one time, I did have a Brno, model ZKK 602 if I recall correctly, in 458 Lott and shortly after picked up a Winchester model 70 Super Express in 458 WM.

The model 70 was finished off a quite a bit nicer and,

shot considerably than the Brno so the Brno went up for adoption.

How about calling it the " .458 Yukon ".

Sounds like a good wildcat, I have often wondered why Ruger/Hornady didn't bring out a .458 to go along with the .375 and .416 Ruger. I considered doing something similar when I was looking for a bigbore but ended up with a .450 Rigby instead.

Enjoy your new rifle and cartridge.

I actually enjoy your posts, its like reading a gun mag from the 1970's and is good for a laugh. However in this case you are only about 6 years behind the times and it makes for much less entertainment.
